LIS Pedagogy Chat is the creation of Laura Saunders (laura.saunders at simmons.edu) and Melissa A. Wong (mawong at illinois.edu).
Laura Saunders
Laura is an Associate Professor at Simmons University School of Library and Information Science, where she teaches in the areas of instruction, information literacy, reference services, academic libraries, and intellectual freedom in both face-to-face and online formats. Laura has a strong interest in the connections between information literacy and social justice issues, as well as in the impact of mis- and disinformation. She was the online coordinator for SLIS for two years and is the 2019 recipient of Simmons University’s Provost Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching.
Melissa A. Wong
Melissa is an instructor in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she teaches courses in instruction, elearning, higher education, and reference. Melissa is passionate about creating online learning that is relevant and engaging through the use of authentic content and inclusive, accessible design. She is consistently recognized on the University’s “List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students” and was the 2012 recipient of the Campus Award for Excellence in Online and Distance Teaching.
Laura and Melissa’s other collaborations include co-editing Reference and Information Services: An Introduction, 6th edition (Libraries Unlimited, 2020) and co-authoring of the open access textbook Instruction in Libraries and Information Centers: An Introduction (Windsor & Downs Press, 2020).
